Pointer Towards User Needs

The following post by Malibu (Andrew) on the Internet Archive Open Source Audio Forum, dated March 18, 2004, is a raw example of the demand there is for mechanisms that will enable the identification of excellent music, from unknown musicians, by users:

“As a new member [of the forum] I am unfamiliar with many of the bands mentioned on the list. Could anyone please recommend some bands that are excellent in the

Country / Rock Genre.

Thanks
Andrew ”

Rating/Review/Recommendation schemes for music, and other (Internet) content, would do well to automatically address such user needs. Such user demands will become increasingly important as the fragmentation of content producers (in this case musicians) and consumers increases over the Internet.
