In order to download the song Windows users should "right-click" on the Download link and then select "Save Target As..." from the menu that appears, before choosing a directory in which to save the song.

Before starting to rate songs I should first explain the rating scale I intend to use. There are five different rating options which are Excellent, Good, Neutral, Poor and Terrible. Neutral corresponds to the middle of the possible range, with Good and Excellent being directly mirrored by Poor and Terrible.

Five options have been adopted to try and make the rating scale compatible with five-star rating scales that are commonly used (although four-star systems also exist!). The five options listed above also have the potential advantage of occurring in alphabetical order.

So, this is a blog about enabling the discovery of resources, such as songs, over the Internet. Ultimately it is aimed at unsigned musicians who wish to release their songs under creative commons licenses (more details later) and users who wish to discover such songs released under terms that enable then to be copied.

However, the narrative of the blog will initially be of interest to other bloggers and social software application developers looking to facilitate such discovery. The key theme will be a discussion of how peer ratings can be combined with metadata to enable the discovery of resources.

Whilst examples of such ratings/metadata information will be included in the body of the blog, a more powerful means of accessing this information will be provided via an RSS 1.0 feed.
